Juan Garrigó proposes expanding the Plastics for School Supplies program nationwide
The Secretary General of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Juan Garrigó, highlighted the success of the third edition of the “Plastics for School Supplies” initiative, a program led by the National District City Hall that seeks to promote environmental awareness while providing direct economic support to Dominican families.
During his participation in the event, Garrigó highlighted the remarkable evolution of the program, noting that each installment surpasses the previous one in terms of organization and positive results for the citizenry.
Every year this activity improves, every year it is more organized, every year with better results. It is a program that combines environmental protection with direct support for families, by allowing them to exchange plastic bottles for school supplies for the back-to-school season.

A replicable model for the country
The political leader revealed that Mayor Carolina Mejía is working on the creation of an official protocol. The goal is for this model to be shared with other mayoralties, allowing the dynamic to extend to different municipalities across the national territory.
Garrigó suggested that this exchange system, which has already proven effective with initiatives like “Plastics for Toys,” could be diversified to include other useful items, thus helping to consolidate a recycling culture where the population recognizes the real value of plastic waste.
Details of the workday in the National District
The third edition of this event featured a strict security detail composed of 400 agents to ensure order. To participate, residents of the National District had to present their identity card, complying with the dynamic of handing over one thousand plastic bottles in exchange for a backpack equipped with an electronic tablet and a thermos.
