Jet Set case trial continues: Court analyzes technical report on the collapse
The judicial process seeking to determine legal responsibilities following the collapse of the iconic Jet Set nightclub, brought against siblings Antonio and Maribel Espaillat, has entered a decisive technical phase. The court in charge of the case ordered a recess until 3:00 p.m. this Friday, at which time the analysis of the evidentiary elements presented before the chamber will resume.
The current session has focused exclusively on the presentation and breakdown of the expert report that evaluates the structural conditions the establishment presented at the time of the incident. This document is a key piece in clarifying the causes of the event that shocked Dominican society.
Onesvie experts under interrogation
During the hearing, the director of the National Office for Seismic Assessment and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) appeared before the bench to present the technical details of the analysis conducted. The official’s intervention was fundamental for the court to understand the building’s vulnerabilities.
The main points of the process include:
- Formal presentation of the conclusions of the Onesvie expert report.
- Exhaustive questioning of the technical specialists by the defense.
- Debate on the factors that could have directly influenced the collapse of the structure.
The assessment of this technical report, together with the other evidence incorporated into the file, will be decisive for the judges to establish the corresponding responsibilities in this high-impact case.
Although the process has experienced moments of tension due to the strong exchanges between the parties during the debate on the evidence, the court is maintaining the established schedule. It is expected that, after the resumption at 3:00 p.m., the technical clarification phase will continue, allowing both the defense and the court to delve into the expert findings to move toward the next stages of the trial.
