Changes in the diplomatic corps: Israel Terrero Vólquez assumes new duties at MIREX

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, has ordered a strategic movement in the Dominican foreign service by appointing Israel Terrero Vólquez as Minister Counselor in the Internal Service. With this decision, the official concludes his tenure as Consul General in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, to join administrative and diplomatic duties within the national territory.

Trajectory and management of Terrero Vólquez

Israel Terrero Vólquez began his tenure at the Mayagüez consulate after being appointed via Decree 163-23, issued on April 21, 2023. According to official records from the Chamber of Accounts, the diplomat formally assumed the position on August 4 of that same year, remaining at the head of said consular office until the recent presidential order.

Before his foray into diplomacy, Terrero Vólquez accumulated significant experience in the legislative sphere, having served as a deputy. His time in public life is duly documented in the sworn statements of assets submitted to the State’s oversight bodies, which validates his trajectory prior to his appointment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX).

The transfer of Terrero Vólquez to the Internal Service marks the end of a cycle of approximately three years directly linked to consular representation in Puerto Rico, consolidating his profile within the current structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Reconfiguration of the foreign service

With this move, the Dominican Government continues to adjust the pieces of its diplomatic corps. Although the official MIREX directory still identified him as the incumbent in Mayagüez, the new appointment as minister counselor in the Internal Service takes effect immediately, reinforcing the Ministry’s internal operational capabilities with an official who already has experience in both the legislative branch and foreign affairs.
