Intrant evaluates compensation measures following changes to driver’s license validity
The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) has announced that it is working on structuring a mechanism to compensate those drivers whose licenses were recently issued with a validity of only two years, despite the new regulatory provisions.
The institution explained that its technical teams are making the necessary operational adjustments to implement the changes derived from Decree 675, enacted this Tuesday by President Luis Abinader. Said regulation modifies the current rule to align it with what was ruled in judgment TC/0904/26 of the Constitutional Court.
New guidelines for license validity
As of the entry into force of this measure, a uniform four-year validity period has been established for all driver’s licenses in the national territory. In light of this update, the Intrant has reaffirmed its commitment to seeking solutions for citizens affected by the transition of the regulation.
- Intrant is working on defining the administrative procedure to adjust licenses issued prior to the decree.
- The measure responds to compliance with Constitutional Court ruling TC/0904/26.
- The standardized four-year validity seeks to simplify and improve the renewal process for Dominican drivers.
The institution continues to work on the mechanism that will allow for addressing the cases of drivers affected by the reduction in the validity of their documents, ensuring that the new provision is applied equitably.
