Intrant and Digesett inspect 158 motorcyclists in road safety operations

In a joint effort to strengthen road safety in Greater Santo Domingo, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) and the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) have intensified their enforcement efforts. In just two days of operations, a total of 158 motorcyclists have been sanctioned for various violations of the Traffic Law.

Intervention details

The control actions were divided into two consecutive days with the objective of reducing risky behaviors that endanger both drivers and pedestrians. The results reflect a constant presence of the authorities on the avenues with the highest vehicular flow:

  • Tuesday: 85 motorcyclists inspected.
  • Wednesday: 73 motorcycles impounded (38 in the morning and 35 in the afternoon).

Among the most common offenses detected by officers during these operations are the absence of a protective helmet, disregard for red traffic lights, and general non-compliance with the regulations in force in the country.

Our administration is committed to enforcing the Traffic Law. We are going to work firmly and permanently so that the rules are respected by everyone.

Juan Manuel Méndez, executive director of Intrant

Commitment to road safety

The director of Intrant, Juan Manuel Méndez, emphasized that these measures are not temporary, but are part of a comprehensive and permanent strategy to ensure order in traffic. The official stressed that the success of this initiative depends as much on institutional oversight as it does on the individual responsibility of each driver when traveling on the streets.

In light of the recent road incidents recorded in the country, authorities have reiterated their call for caution. The operations, which have initially been concentrated in critical points of Greater Santo Domingo, will be progressively extended to other provinces of the national territory in order to promote a culture of responsible driving and reduce traffic accidents.
