Weather forecast: Downpours and a trough will impact various provinces of the Dominican Republic
The weather in the Dominican Republic will be affected this Wednesday by the combination of a tropical wave and a trough in the upper levels of the troposphere. This atmospheric phenomenon will cause moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts across much of the national territory, reported Alofoke Deportes.
According to the weather report, the increase in rainfall activity will be felt from the early morning hours until night. The areas with the highest probability of precipitation include the Caribbean coastline, the northeast and northwest regions, the Cibao, and the Central mountain range.
Provinces under surveillance
The authorities have identified the areas at highest risk of receiving significant rainfall accumulations, among which the following stand out:
- La Altagracia and El Seibo
- La Romana and San Pedro de Macorís
- Santo Domingo and Monte Plata
- Samaná and María Trinidad Sánchez
- Duarte and Espaillat
- Puerto Plata and Santiago
- Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña and Dajabón
Current flood alerts
Due to soil saturation and rainfall projections, a meteorological alert level remains in effect for Greater Santo Domingo, the National District, and the province of San Cristóbal. The main risk lies in potential urban flooding, so citizens are advised to stay informed and follow the precautionary measures issued by emergency agencies.
The population residing in vulnerable areas is urged to stay alert to official bulletins and take the necessary preventive measures to avoid incidents in the face of possible flash floods.

Tropical disturbance monitoring
Beyond local conditions, the agency maintains constant surveillance of two disturbances associated with tropical waves in the Atlantic:
- A system southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, showing a 70% chance of cyclonic development within 48 hours and 80% over the next seven days.
- A second disturbance near the African coast, with a lower development potential, estimated at 10% in the short term and 20% in a week.
Additionally, an area of showers is observed east/northeast of Bermuda with a 50% chance of becoming a cyclone, although due to its current location, this system does not pose a danger to the Dominican Republic.
Weather in Greater Santo Domingo
For the National District and the municipalities of the Santo Domingo province, mostly cloudy skies are expected with local showers and scattered thunderstorms throughout the day. Despite the rain, the environment will remain hot, with maximum temperatures ranging between 30 °C and 32 °C, and minimums remaining between 24 °C and 26 °C.
