Weather forecast: Indomet warns of downpours and thunderstorms in the country
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a detailed report for this Tuesday, warning about the incidence of a trough and high humidity that will affect the national territory. A day marked by scattered downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts is expected, with the afternoon being the period of greatest meteorological activity.
During the morning, unstable conditions will be concentrated mainly in the Caribbean coastal zone, affecting various sectors of Greater Santo Domingo. Meanwhile, in other regions of the country, the sky will remain with little cloud cover. However, as the day progresses, daytime heating and orographic effects will enhance the development of clouds with great vertical development.
Provinces under surveillance
The meteorological agency anticipates moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by electrical activity, for the following areas:
- Hato Mayor, Monte Plata and El Seibo.
- Monseñor Nouel and La Vega.
- Santiago Rodríguez and the south of Santiago.
- Elías Piña and the north of San Juan.
- Independencia.
Recommendations for persistent heat
Although the astronomical autumn has begun in the northern hemisphere, the Dominican Republic maintains a hot environment with a high heat index. It is essential to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
Minimum temperatures will range between 24 °C and 26 °C, while maximums will rise between 33 °C and 35 °C. Indomet recommends wearing light-colored, lightweight clothing and seeking cool, well-ventilated spaces, especially between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Details for Greater Santo Domingo
The National District will start the day with partly cloudy skies, local downpours, and wind gusts, giving way to a hot afternoon. In North Santo Domingo, morning showers with thunderstorms are expected, while in West Santo Domingo, rain will be concentrated in the morning. For its part, East Santo Domingo will record occasional cloudiness with isolated showers in the early hours of the day.
Tropical activity monitoring
Internationally, Indomet is monitoring Tropical Storm Fay, located 920 kilometers southwest of the Azores Islands. Due to its trajectory and distance, this system does not pose any threat to the Dominican Republic.
Additionally, a tropical wave emerging from the coast of Africa is being monitored. Currently, this system has a low probability of cyclonic development of 30% over the next seven days, so the meteorological agency will continue to analyze its constant evolution.
