Suspect in murder of truck driver in Santiago captured in Jamaica
After four months of intense searching, authorities managed to capture Jesús Cruz, known as “Macho”, 28 years old, who is identified as one of the alleged perpetrators of the homicide of Carlos Abreu Quesada, a garbage truck driver who lost his life in the city of Santiago.
The spokesperson for the National Police in Santiago, Fiordaliza Popa Arias, confirmed that the arrest took place in Jamaican territory. According to investigations, the suspect had entered that country irregularly using a false identity, with the firm purpose of evading Dominican justice and the monitoring of security agencies.
Details of the tragic event
The crime that shocked Santiago society occurred on April 17, 2026. According to reports, it all originated after a traffic incident that led to a pursuit. In a desperate attempt to save his life, the victim, Carlos Abreu Quesada, sought refuge in the parking lot of the Santiago Courthouse; however, he was intercepted and fatally attacked on the spot.
Despite being taken to a medical center, the worker passed away due to the severity of the injuries sustained during the attack.
The capture of “Macho” is the result of a coordinated effort between Dominican authorities, international agencies, and Interpol, who managed to locate the fugitive despite his attempts to hide his trail using forged documents.
Extradition process underway
Currently, the Dominican State is working in close collaboration with the Jamaican authorities to formalize the necessary legal procedures for the extradition of Jesús Cruz. Once he is transferred to the country, the accused must appear before the courts of Santiago to face the charges presented by the Public Ministry.
