The 2026-2027 school year officially begins in the Dominican Republic
With an atmosphere charged with enthusiasm and high expectations, thousands of Dominican students reunited this Monday with their classmates and teachers to formally begin the 2026-2027 school year. This return to the classrooms marks the beginning of a new academic stage at all levels and modalities of the national education system.
The country’s educational system is preparing to receive a total enrollment of approximately 2.6 million students. Of this figure, the public sector assumes the greatest burden with 78% of the student population, while the private sector welcomes more than 600,000 students who are joining their educational activities.

The opening day featured a massive presence of fathers, mothers, and guardians, who accompanied the students on this first day, a gesture especially significant for those little ones entering the system for the first time or starting a different educational cycle.
