Fare adjustment: Santiago urban routes increase fare to RD$40
Starting this Monday, public transport users in Santiago began experiencing a RD$5 increase in the cost of fares on various urban routes, setting the official rate at RD$40. The measure was confirmed by the Federation of Transport Workers of the Northern Region (Fetranreno).
Gervacio de la Rosa, president of the entity, explained that this decision is in response to the constant rise in the prices of spare parts and the operating costs necessary to guarantee the functioning of the units. According to the leader, the sector made prolonged efforts to maintain the RD$35 fare, but current economic pressures made it unsustainable to maintain that price.

Affected routes and payment unification
The adjustment, agreed upon by the general secretaries of the transport organizations last Saturday, also seeks to standardize the service. De la Rosa pointed out that there was a disparity in fares, where some routes were already charging RD$40 while others remained at RD$35, which frequently led to conflicts between passengers and transport workers.
Among the urban routes that have implemented the new cost are:
- Route A
- Route B
- Route C
- Route Q
- Route O
- Route DT
- Route R
- Route K
- Route CK
Scope of the measure
It is important to highlight that this increase is exclusive to urban transport. Interurban routes, including services connecting to Puerto Plata, maintain their usual fares without changes for the moment. Transport leadership has called on the public to cooperate with the new fare, with the goal of maintaining harmony and avoiding friction during daily service.
