Serious attempted assault against teenager in Haina reported: Justice demanded in the face of system failures

A shocking case of kidnapping and attempted assault against a 13-year-old minor has shaken Dominican society. The event, which involves a close relative, was exposed by journalist Hansel García during his participation in the program Esto No es Radio Show, where he harshly questioned the response of judicial authorities to these types of crimes.

Account of an outrageous event

The victim, identified by the initials D.H.M., was the target of an attempted assault last Thursday, June 13. According to the report, the minor was picked up after a community activity by her uncle, Melvin Ariel Hernández Paredes, 42, who had the full trust of her parents to transport the children.

Under false pretenses, the aggressor diverted the route to kilometer 12 of Haina and entered a wooded area under the Quitasueño bridge. There, the individual attempted to subdue the teenager, who managed to defend herself and escape thanks to a brave reaction, being subsequently assisted by passersby on the highway.

I was able to get out of there. I ran out and two people appeared and helped me.

Victim’s testimony

Criticism of judicial management

The case has highlighted what Garcia describes as a worrying negligence of the judicial system. Although expert evidence confirmed the psychological damage, the alleged aggressor was released by the police after the legal deadline expired, because the Haina Prosecutor’s Office did not process the corresponding arrest warrant in time.

Given this situation, the communicator made an urgent call to the highest levels of the Public Ministry to intervene and ensure the protection of the minor:

  • Intervention of the Attorney General’s Office.
  • Review of the actions of the Haina Gender and Sexual Crimes Prosecutor’s Office.
  • Demand for speed in judicial processes to avoid impunity.

Alert to Dominican families

Beyond the specific complaint, Hansel Garcia urged citizens to maintain constant vigilance over the environment of minors. The journalist emphasized that, unfortunately, many assaults are perpetrated by people within the family’s circle of trust.

The teenager’s family remains firm in their fight to obtain justice, rejecting any attempt at pressure to drop the complaint and demanding that the person responsible answer to the law for their actions.
