Road transformation: Government to eliminate traffic lights at the exit towards the North
The Dominican Government has launched an ambitious infrastructure plan designed to optimize connectivity and decongest traffic at the exit of Santo Domingo towards the Northern region. The main objective is the elimination of traffic lights on this strategic route, allowing for faster and more efficient vehicular flow for citizens.
Details of the new elevated structures
During the second edition of Weekly Agenda, focused on infrastructure, the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, detailed that the project contemplates the construction of three overpasses at the entrance of the Duarte highway. Regarding the current state of the works, Estrella reported the following:
- The first elevated highway has already been awarded and the necessary expropriation processes are currently being managed.
- A second elevated highway is in the bidding phase.
- The third viaduct has been formally put out to tender through RD Vial.
These interventions will allow for the removal of traffic lights for those leaving Santo Domingo towards the north, marking a before and after in national mobility.

Towards seamless connectivity
This initiative is not an isolated project, but rather part of a comprehensive strategy to transform the entrances and exits of Greater Santo Domingo. Authorities have projected that, by combining these elevated highways with the new bypasses under development, it will be possible to achieve an uninterrupted route nationwide.
The vision of the authorities is that, in the near future, a driver can travel from Montecristi to Punta Cana without the need to stop at a single traffic light, thus strengthening the country’s road network and improving the quality of life for drivers.
