Garibaldy Bautista urges sports leaders to vote with conscience and memory in the COD elections

Ahead of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) elections, scheduled for December 2nd, the current president of the institution, Garibaldy Bautista, has made a formal call to the leaders of the federated movement. Bautista emphasized the importance of casting a vote based on responsibility and a deep analysis of the results obtained during his administration.

The leader supported the positions of his colleagues Gilberto García and William Ozuna, who have promoted reflection before electing the new authorities for the 2026-2030 Olympic cycle. According to Bautista, it is essential that the electorate evaluate the financial and operational state in which the entity was received against the progress achieved.

We support the conscience vote, but let it be a conscience vote with memory. We received the COD with a deficit of 28 million pesos and we have managed to clean up the finances, fulfilling all our current economic commitments.

Achievements and institutional strengthening

During his tenure, Bautista’s administration has focused on institutional stability and the improvement of the organization’s physical infrastructure. Among the most significant advances, the head of the COD highlighted:

  • Total renewal of the vehicle fleet.
  • Remodeling and air conditioning of the Juan Ulises García Saleta hall.
  • Comprehensive improvements to the employee dining room and roof waterproofing.
  • Optimization and organization of parking areas.

In addition to infrastructure, Bautista highlighted the international projection of Dominican sports. Thanks to management focused on diplomatic relations, the COD has strengthened its ties with the International Olympic Committee, Panam Sports, and Centro Caribe Sports. Likewise, strategic agreements have been signed with nations such as Germany, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, and Guatemala, which have served as a foundation for the technical preparation of national athletes.

Details of the electoral process

The process to elect the Executive Committee that will govern the destiny of Dominican Olympism during the 2026-2030 period has an independent electoral commission, chaired by Dionisio Guzmán and composed of Rafael Villalona and Jorge Torres. Said commission was ratified unanimously during an assembly of federations.

Although Bautista has maintained an active schedule of meetings with various sports federations, to date he has not made it official whether he will present his candidacy to continue at the head of the entity. The president of the COD reiterated that, regardless of personal aspirations, the main focus of the voters should be the preservation of the stability and institutionalism that the organization has recovered in recent years.
