Francisco Peña and the FEDA promote an urban reforestation plan in Santo Domingo Oeste
The City Hall of Santo Domingo Oeste, under the administration of Francisco Peña, has joined forces with the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA) to launch the “Siembra tu Pueblo” (Plant Your Town) program. This strategic initiative has the primary goal of recovering public spaces, increasing green areas, and strengthening environmental awareness throughout the municipality.
The launch event took place on the central median of the 27 de Febrero Avenue extension, in front of Plaza Bohemia, with the presence of Mayor Peña and the executive director of FEDA, Hecmilio Galván. During the event, the municipal leader highlighted the importance of this inter-institutional collaboration to transform the urban environment.
The planting of plants will be permanent to reforest our municipality and bring beauty this Christmas.

For his part, Hecmilio Galván, head of FEDA, emphasized that this project transcends visual beautification, as it seeks to mitigate pollution and foster sustainable social development through the community’s direct contact with the environment.
Reforestation program details
The plan includes the planting of 2,000 specimens of various species, among which the mara, penda, and jacaranda stand out. The intervention will be extended progressively through various strategic points of the demarcation, including:
- Bayona and Las Caobas
- Los Olivos and La Canela
- Engombe, Hato Nuevo and Caballona
- Manoguayabo and San Miguel
- El Abanico de Herrera
- La Altagracia de Herrera and El Palmar de Herrera
This joint workday not only included technical personnel from both institutions, but also actively integrated residents from the beneficiary communities, who joined in the planting efforts. Through these actions, the Santo Domingo Oeste City Hall reaffirms its commitment to managing a healthier, greener, and friendlier city for all its inhabitants.
