XXVIII Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2026 Inaugurated
The Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza is dressed in its finest to host the 28th edition of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD) 2026. The event, which will run until October 4th, was formally inaugurated this Wednesday in a ceremony led by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo.
This edition stands out for paying a well-deserved tribute to the renowned Dominican writer José Mármol, whose career has been fundamental to national literature. Likewise, the fair features the special participation of Panama as the guest country of honor, strengthening cultural ties through various artistic exhibitions.
A diverse and ambitious cultural agenda

- Comprehensive proposals covering literature, cinema, art, and diverse cultural manifestations.
Literature is a tool capable of transforming time into stories and words that remain and transcend generations. This is a space to celebrate our cultural richness and project Dominican talent to the world.
Raquel Peña, Vice President of the Republic
For his part, Minister Roberto Ángel Salcedo emphasized that the main objective of this event is to foster the habit of reading in the population, considering it an essential pillar for the development of critical thinking and the formation of a personal worldview in citizens.
Tribute to José Mármol and international presence
The highlight of the opening ceremony, held at the National Theater, was the recognition of José Mármol. The author expressed his deep gratitude for the distinction, noting that this tribute not only celebrates his personal work, but also recognizes an entire generation of Dominican writers.
Panama, as a guest nation, enriched the opening ceremony through the presentation of an audiovisual about its roots and a vibrant performance by its dance troupe, which allowed those present to learn more about the traditions of the Central American country.
The fair will be open to the public starting this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at the Juan Pablo Duarte Plaza de la Cultura, establishing itself as the quintessential meeting point for book lovers and the cultural sector until its closing on October 4th.
