Gianni Infantino arrives in the Dominican Republic to boost the development of football
FIFA President Gianni Infantino arrived in Dominican territory this Friday on a strategic visit aimed at strengthening ties with local football and promoting the growth of this discipline in the country. The top leader of world football was received at Punta Cana Airport by the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, along with executives from the Dominican Football Federation, the Dominican Olympic Committee, and legislative authorities.
During his stay at the airport terminal, Infantino held a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, who gave him a warm welcome to the nation. This approach reaffirms the Dominican Government’s willingness to collaborate closely with the international organization to raise the standards of national football.
I already feel it as my country. You had told me that when we met, and coming here and immediately feeling like I was in my country, and it is, the truth is it is like that, it is like that, it is like that. You have a Dominican as FIFA president.

Commitment to football growth
Infantino’s visit is not coincidental, as it is part of a work agenda focused on three fundamental pillars for Dominican soccer:
- Promotion of modern sports infrastructure projects.
- Technical training programs for coaches and players.
- Massification of soccer in all provinces of the country.
For his part, President Abinader reiterated the State’s interest in maintaining the best relations with FIFA, underlining the total openness to work together on any initiative that benefits the sport. Infantino, in response, placed himself entirely at the disposal of the Dominican authorities to advance the development agenda necessary for local soccer.
This meeting sets a relevant precedent for the history of soccer in the Dominican Republic, consolidating the international support necessary for the country to continue taking firm steps toward professionalization and sporting success in regional and global competitions.
