Road tragedy in La Romana: Man dies after being struck by a vehicle at a highway interchange
A regrettable traffic accident recorded in La Romana claimed the life of Franklin Pierre Cruz, a private employee who lost his life after being struck while walking along the edge of the road junction that connects the exit towards Higüey with the Autopista del Coral.
According to preliminary reports, the citizen was walking along the side of the road when he was struck by a gray Hyundai Sonata. The force of the impact caused the vehicle involved to end up overturned on the road; however, the driver was unharmed after the dramatic incident.
Response from the authorities
Following the incident, an emergency operation was activated in the area. Units from the Fire Department, members of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), National Police officers, and Civil Defense volunteers arrived at the scene of the accident, where they proceeded to secure the area and carry out the corresponding rescue and recovery efforts.
The competent authorities have moved the vehicle involved to the DIGESETT detachment to deepen the investigations and clarify the exact circumstances under which the fatal accident occurred.
By order of the Public Ministry, the body of Franklin Pierre Cruz was handed over to his relatives so they may proceed with funeral rites and his Christian burial. Meanwhile, security agencies continue working to determine the conditions under which the driver was operating and to establish the corresponding legal responsibilities in this tragic case that has brought mourning to a family in La Romana.
