Vuelta a Colombia 2026 ends prematurely following national emergency
The Colombian Cycling Federation has officially announced the definitive cancellation of the 2026 Vuelta a Colombia. This measure, taken immediately, is in response to the devastating situation the country is facing following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake recorded last Monday, which has left a regrettable toll of victims and significant material damage.
The competition, which was scheduled to close next Sunday, was halted after the conclusion of the fifth stage. The priority of the sports authorities is to clear the roads and facilitate the logistics for rescue teams and humanitarian aid supplies destined for the regions most affected by the earthquake.
Priority for humanitarian assistance
Rubén Galeano, president of the Colombian Cycling Federation, emphasized that maintaining the original schedule would have been an obstacle to relief efforts, especially considering that the route passed through critical areas such as Manizales.

Diego Camargo is crowned champion
With the suspension of the event, the general classification was defined after the five stages contested. Diego Camargo, representative of the Medellín EPM team, was proclaimed champion of the 76th edition of the Vuelta a Colombia. The cyclist closed his participation with an accumulated time of 21 hours, 28 minutes, and 8 seconds.
The competition podium was formed as follows:
- Champion: Diego Camargo (Medellín EPM)
- Second place: Javier Ernesto Jamaica (NU Colombia)
- Third place: Edgar Andrés Pinzón (Sistecrédito)
Although the race was interrupted, the Federation confirmed that an awards ceremony will be held at the Mirador de Jericó, Antioquia, as a closing act. This decision underscores the commitment of national sports to solidarity in times of crisis, prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens over competitive activity.
