Luis Abinader appoints Major General Ernesto Rafael Rodríguez García as the new director of the National Police
In a strategic move within the public administration, President Luis Abinader has formalized the appointment of General Ernesto Rafael Rodríguez García as the new Director General of the National Police. The executive order includes his immediate promotion to the rank of Major General, complying with the institutional protocols established in the Organic Law of the National Police.
The current regulations, under Law No. 590-16, require that whoever holds the leadership of the law enforcement institution must hold the rank of major general and remain in active status, conditions that the president has ratified with this new appointment.
Change in police command
The presidential decree also establishes the cessation of functions of the previous incumbent, Major General Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz, who has been placed in an honorable retirement status after concluding his tenure at the head of the police force. This change is part of a series of adjustments that the Executive Branch has been implementing in various state agencies with the goal of optimizing the efficiency of the government apparatus.
The appointment of Major General Rodríguez García responds to the commitment to strengthen citizen security and provide continuity to the institutional transformation processes being carried out by the central government.
With this decree, the previous appointment is formally repealed, marking a new stage in the leadership of the National Police under the direct supervision of the Executive Branch.
