Ecuador reports growth in exports: Shrimp and mining lead the economy

The Ecuadorian economy shows signs of dynamism at the close of the January-July period, recording a total of 23.289 billion dollars in exports. According to official data provided by the Central Bank of Ecuador, this figure represents an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, consolidating a positive trend in the country’s trade balance.

The pillars of Ecuadorian exports

Shrimp continues to position itself as the main driver of external sales, reaching 5.765 billion dollars, which represents a solid growth of 17.6%. Closely following is the oil sector, with revenues of 5.724 billion dollars.

On the other hand, the mining sector has stood out with an impressive rebound of 43.5%, totaling 3.179 billion dollars. Regarding traditional agricultural products, bananas and plantains maintain their relevance with 2.739 billion dollars, reflecting a 7.5% increase. In contrast, cocoa and its derivatives experienced a significant drop of 54.6%, standing at 1.195 billion dollars.

Ecuador’s trade surplus stood at 2.843 billion dollars, after recording a total of 20.445 billion in imports during the first seven months of the year.

Performance analysis in July

The performance in July was particularly notable, with exports reaching 3.717 billion dollars. This represents a growth of 13.2% compared to June and a jump of 48.5% compared to the same month in 2025. The shrimp and mining sectors were the protagonists of this monthly rebound, with significant advances in both volume and commercial value.

  • Shrimp: 32.4% monthly increase and 64.4% year-on-year.
  • Mining: 31.9% monthly growth and 59.4% year-on-year.
  • Imports: Stood at 3.213 billion dollars, with a year-on-year rise of 16.4%.

Within the imports category, fuels and lubricants remain the item with the greatest weight, accumulating 5.372 billion dollars throughout the analyzed period, which is equivalent to a 35.3% year-on-year increase.
