Dominican Republic imposes its law against the Czech Republic in the U-17 World Cup

The Dominican Republic women’s national volleyball team achieved an important victory this Friday after defeating the Czech Republic 3-1 in the Girls’ U17 World Championship. The match, played on Chilean soil, was part of the classification round that determines positions 9 through 16 in the international tournament.

Although the start was complicated for the Dominicans, who conceded the first set 23-25 to a Czech team that showed great intensity at the net and a solid defense, the Dominican sextet knew how to adjust their pieces. From the second set on, the dynamic changed in favor of the Caribbean team, who dominated the following three sets (25-22, 25-23, and 25-15) to seal the match in their favor.

Offensive dominance and standout figures

In the statistical balance, the Dominican team was superior by recording 49 attack points against 45 for their rivals. Likewise, the effectiveness in blocking also favored the Caribbean team with a 9-7 margin.

The attack was led by an inspired Rayni Mondesí, who emerged as the top scorer of the match by recording 28 points. Joining her efforts were Leandry Almonte, with 16 units, and Shanty Pérez, who contributed 12 points. On the defensive side, the work of libero Jazlyn Peña was fundamental in neutralizing the European offenses throughout the course of the match.

They are very tender young girls who have a world to learn, but I like their approach and they are warriors. They always go out on the court to give a thousand percent.

Priscila Rivera, manager of the Dominican national team.

Next steps in the tournament

After this victory, the Dominican Republic is momentarily positioned in ninth place in the standings. The team will maintain its competitive focus this Saturday, when they face the Argentina national team in the continuation of the series to define the final championship positions.
