Dominican Republic adheres to the international definition of antisemitism
The Government of the Dominican Republic has formalized its adherence to the definition of antisemitism established by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). This measure is part of the state strategy to combat hatred, discrimination, and any form of religious intolerance within the national territory.
Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), the authorities highlighted that this decision responds to the country’s historical trajectory in favor of democratic coexistence and the unrestricted respect for human rights. The institution underscored that this stance is consistent with the nation’s humanitarian legacy, recalling that the Dominican Republic was the only State that provided asylum in Sosúa to a significant community of Jewish refugees escaping the Nazi regime.

The definition adopted by the country describes antisemitism as a specific perception of Jewish people, which may be manifested as acts of hatred directed toward individuals, their property, institutions, and places of worship. By integrating into this framework, the Dominican State aligns itself with international guidelines previously endorsed by organizations such as the Organization of American States (OAS).
