Strategic alliance promoted to position the Dominican Republic as a sports tourism hub
The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) and the Dominican Sports Tourism Association have formalized a strategic alliance with the goal of increasing the country’s competitiveness as a host for major international sporting events. This approach seeks to effectively integrate sports infrastructure with the national tourism offering, fostering an ecosystem that benefits both sectors.
The meeting was attended by key figures such as Garibaldy Bautista, president of the COD; Yerik Pérez, president of the Dominican Sports Tourism Association; and Huáscar Jiménez, head of the Center for Tourism Studies and Development. During the session, the progress of the Sports Tourism Economic Impact Study was analyzed, a fundamental research project supported by Banco BHD to quantify the real contribution of athletic competitions to the Dominican economy.

The ongoing research has as its main goal to generate accurate information that allows the public and private sectors to make informed decisions. By measuring the economic impact of events, institutions will be able to design more aggressive strategies for attracting new investments and high-profile competitions.

- Golf tourism on world-class courses.
- Water sports at various strategic points in the country.
The experience gained in recent events, such as the projection of the Dominican House during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has served as a model to demonstrate that the union between sports and tourism promotion is a winning formula for the sustained growth of the nation.
