Ecuador declares a state of emergency in eight provinces to strengthen security
The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, has made official the implementation of a state of emergency with a duration of 60 days. This strategic measure covers eight provinces and three specific municipalities, with the primary objective of intensifying control operations and guaranteeing citizen security in the areas identified as priorities by the national government.
The government provision includes the suspension of the inviolability of the home, granting security agencies expanded powers to carry out direct interventions and strengthen surveillance in the territories under the decree.
Territorial scope of the measure
The state of emergency covers the following provinces:
- El Oro
- Esmeraldas
- Guayas
- Los Ríos
- Manabí
- Pichincha
- Santa Elena
- Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas
Additionally, the measure extends to the municipalities of Camilo Ponce Enríquez (Azuay), Las Naves (Bolívar), and La Maná (Cotopaxi).
Night curfew
As a complement to these actions, the Executive has determined the implementation of a nightly curfew. This mobility restriction will be in effect from September 17 to 30 and will specifically affect the coastal provinces of El Oro, Guayas, Los Ríos, and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
This decision responds to the Executive’s commitment to strengthen public order and provide security forces with the necessary tools to face current challenges regarding citizen protection.
With these extraordinary actions, the Government seeks to regain control in the most vulnerable areas and optimize the State’s response capacity against insecurity, maintaining a constant presence of the authorities at critical points for as long as the decree remains active.
