Diplomatic tensions: Cuban ambassador assures that his nation will not harm the Dominican people
Amidst the complex diplomatic scenario that the Dominican Republic and Cuba are going through, the Cuban ambassador to the country, Ángel Arzuaga Reyes, called for brotherhood and reaffirmed the historical ties that unite both Caribbean nations. The diplomat emphasized that his country’s commitment is to maintain unity and avoid any action that could be detrimental to Dominicans.
These statements were offered during a commemorative event at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), dedicated to the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth. In his speech, Arzuaga Reyes underscored the importance of preserving the friendship between both peoples despite current circumstances.

A climate of diplomatic uncertainty
The context for these words arises following the recent decision by the Dominican Government to grant a seven-day deadline to nine officials of the Cuban embassy, along with their families, to leave the national territory. So far, the Dominican authorities have not issued an official statement detailing the specific causes that motivated this ultimatum.
For its part, the Cuban Executive has described the measure as the result of external pressures, pointing directly to the United States. Faced with the press’s insistence on this conflict, Ambassador Arzuaga Reyes preferred to keep the focus on the academic commemoration, limiting himself to pointing out that the day was intended for celebration and not for addressing matters of a political nature.

During the event at the UASD, the diplomatic representative took the opportunity to highlight the pillars of the Cuban Revolution, describing it as a benchmark for nations he considers oppressed. Likewise, he asserted that:
