COE issues green alert due to tropical wave: what you need to know
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has issued a green alert for the province of Santo Domingo, the National District, and the province of San Juan. This preventive measure is in response to the impact of a tropical wave affecting the Dominican territory, causing atmospheric instability.
According to the most recent report from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), the country is under a high-humidity environment, which will favor the formation of cloudiness and the occurrence of significant rainfall during this Friday afternoon.
Areas under rainfall forecast
Meteorological authorities warn that the rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, will be concentrated especially in the following districts:
- Monseñor Nouel
- La Vega
- Santiago
- Santiago Rodríguez
- Valverde
- Puerto Plata
- Monte Cristi
- Dajabón
- San Juan
- Elías Piña
- Azua
This rainy activity is expected to continue throughout the rest of the afternoon and into the early evening hours, gradually decreasing as the hours pass. In the rest of the country, mostly sunny skies are expected with occasional increases in cloudiness.
The population is advised to stay away from rivers, streams, and creeks that have high volumes of water, as well as to avoid using swimming areas in the zones under alert to prevent unfortunate incidents.

Recommendations for extreme heat
In addition to the instability caused by the rains, Indomet has warned that a hot environment with a high heat index will persist. To mitigate the effects of the heat, Alofoke Deportes reminds the public to follow the authorities’ guidelines:
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
- Stay in cool, well-ventilated environments.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
