Blow to drug trafficking: Authorities seize cocaine shipment in the Honduran Caribbean
In a strategic operation carried out this Monday, the Armed Forces of Honduras achieved a significant seizure of illicit substances in Caribbean waters. During the deployment, authorities confiscated at least 17 bales containing cocaine, marking a new step in the fight against organized crime in the region.
The operation took place approximately 30 nautical miles north of the Patuca bar. According to the official report, the deployment led to the capture of eleven individuals, five of whom are Colombian nationals and six Honduran, who were placed at the disposal of judicial authorities after being transported to the Caratasca Naval Base, in the department of Gracias a Dios.
Maritime operation details
- Vessels seized: A speedboat and the shrimp fishing vessel identified as “Miss Celeste”.
- Participating authorities: Naval Force, Technical Agency for Criminal Investigation (ATIC), and the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime.
- Ongoing actions: Agents are maintaining inspection and tracking operations on the high seas, as more bales of suspected drugs were identified that were thrown into the water by the suspects during their attempted escape.
