Dominican Republic Army launches sports program for children of its members

With the purpose of strengthening discipline, values, and family unity within the military community, the Association of Army Officers’ Wives of the Dominican Republic (ADEOERD), led by Staly García de Arias, in conjunction with the Army Commanding General, Major General Jimmy Arias Grullón, launched the ERD Sports Training program.

This project is consolidated as an inclusive and permanent initiative, designed to provide social well-being to the children of the institution’s members. The program starts with a capacity for 315 children and adolescents, whose ages range between 6 and 14 years old, organized into three formative categories.

A project backed by sports stars

The launch was attended by prominent figures from national and international sports, who have joined as mentors for the project. Among the athletes supporting this initiative are:

  • Juana Arrendel, Wanda Rijo and José Vicbart Geraldino (Sports Immortals).
  • Rubel Salomón José, Ubaldo Cabrera and Francisco Cordero Montaño (Major League Baseball players).
  • María García Cáceres (Olympic judoka).
  • Brayelin Martínez and Gaila González (Queens of the Caribbean).

Comprehensive training and Olympic disciplines

Participants will be supervised by a specialized technical staff, consisting of 8 coaches and 6 assistants. The youth will be able to develop their skills in seven sports disciplines, including baseball, basketball, volleyball, swimming, chess, athletics, and soccer, using the institution’s facilities from Monday to Friday.

The essence of ERD Sports Training lies in the Saturday Talks, where high-performance athletes will share their life experiences, promoting values, violence prevention, and the responsible use of technology.

This effort, driven by the vision of the Army’s board of directors, seeks to turn athletic success into a life tool, thus forging the new generation of Dominican citizens with a solid foundation of integrity and social commitment.
