Adonis Medina and Harold Ramirez are chosen as the first Players of the Week
The Association of Sports Chroniclers of Santo Domingo (ACD) successfully kicked off the 2026-2027 season of its iconic “Star Baseball Player of the Week” awards. In an event marked by camaraderie and respect for winter baseball, sports journalists selected the most outstanding players during the initial games of the Dominican professional championship.
Tigres del Licey pitcher, Adonis Medina, and Estrellas Orientales outfielder, Harold Ramírez, were the award winners in this first edition, after prevailing in the voting carried out by the specialized press at the Súper Bets facilities.
Absolute dominance on the field
Adonis Medina took the distinction after a masterful pitching performance in the opening game against the Leones del Escogido. The right-hander shone for five full innings, striking out nine opponents and guiding the Tigres to a resounding 12-2 victory, which earned him 22 votes in his favor.
On the other hand, Harold Ramírez was recognized for his explosive offense with the green team. With a .467 batting average, the outfielder collected seven hits in 15 at-bats, including a home run, three RBIs, and four runs scored, serving as a key piece for the Estrellas Orientales’ positive start.
This award seeks to restore the splendor of a historical tradition, strengthening the ties between the protagonists of the game and the communicators, while we exalt the excellence of our athletes.

The ceremony also served as a stage to honor two fundamental figures in the sports field:
- Carlos Pérez: The former Major League pitcher was honored for his legacy and career, serving as an example for new generations of baseball players.
- Williams Aish: The prominent sports journalist and editor was recognized for his impeccable work in Dominican sports journalism, marking the beginning of a series of tributes dedicated to editors of national media outlets.
A tradition with history
Since its creation in 1957, “El Pelotero Estrella de la Semana” (The Star Player of the Week) has established itself as an indispensable benchmark in winter baseball. Under the current management of the ACD, led by Américo Celado and coordinated by Franklin Núñez and Frank de la Cruz, the event maintains its regular appointment every Monday at noon at Súper Bets, reaffirming its commitment to the history and development of the national sport in the Dominican Republic.
