The ACD relaunches the historic El Pelotero Estrella de la Semana awards

The Association of Sports Journalists of Santo Domingo (ACD) has confirmed the return of one of the most traditional awards in our winter ball: The Star Player of the Week. This recognition seeks to highlight the outstanding performance of the players who shine in each day of the Dominican professional baseball tournament.

The announcement was made by Américo Celado, president of the entity, who detailed that the awards dynamic will take place every Monday at noon. The meetings will be hosted at the Súper Bets facilities, located at the intersection of 27 de Febrero Avenue and Tiradentes, in Plaza Merengue. The event will be coordinated by experienced sports journalists Franklin Núñez and Frank de la Cruz.

A tribute to sports editors

In this renewed edition, the ACD has decided to dedicate the space to sports editors of national media outlets, valuing their constant work in the growth and promotion of baseball in the Dominican Republic. During the opening day, a special tribute will be paid to key figures in the sector:

  • Williams Aish, sports editor.
  • Andrés Vanderhorst, visionary creator of this awards ceremony.
  • Carlos Pérez, former professional baseball player.

We want to restore the shine to an awards ceremony that for decades has been a benchmark for local baseball. Every Monday, the sports family will gather at Súper Bets to award the best and share with the press.

The ACD extends a cordial invitation to all its members, media representatives, and the sports community in general to attend the opening ceremony, scheduled for Monday, October 19 at 12:00 p.m. This effort reaffirms the association’s commitment to keeping alive the spaces for meeting and recognition that strengthen the baseball culture in our country.
