José P. Monegro is awarded for his management of the Central American and Caribbean Games
Within the framework of the “Excelencia Acedeísta, Cronistas y Atletas del Año 2026” gala, the Association of Sports Journalists of Santo Domingo (ACDSD) presented a special recognition to journalist José P. Monegro. The tribute highlights his impeccable work at the head of the Organizing Committee for the Central American and Caribbean Games, an event that marked a milestone in the country’s sports agenda.
The event, which took place at the Hotel Barceló Santo Domingo, brought together prominent figures from journalism and national sports to celebrate their career and contributions to Dominican sports development.
For me, it is always a source of satisfaction, because these are journalists with whom one has been on the street, reporting, with a microphone, a cell phone, or whatever it may be.

Monegro highlighted that this recognition holds a particular significance as it comes from colleagues with whom he has shared years of professional practice. Likewise, he underscored that the success of the Central American and Caribbean Games was not an individual effort, but the result of a collective endeavor and constant support throughout the entire organizational cycle.

In addition to the tribute to Monegro, the ACDSD Executive Council took the opportunity to distinguish other outstanding members of the institution for their trajectory and dedication:
- Osvaldo Rodríguez Suncar.
- Gustavo Rodríguez Diloné.
The ceremony was enlivened by maestro Ramón Orlando Valoy, who took advantage of the stage to celebrate his five decades of career in popular art, adding a musical touch to the awards day.
The ACDSD, founded on March 9, 1929, reaffirms with this edition of its annual gala its commitment to honoring the communication professionals and athletes who, through their daily work, elevate the name of the Dominican Republic in the sports field.
