Chaos and destruction: Accident on Estrella Sadhalá Avenue causes alarm in Santiago
The tranquility of the early morning in Santiago was interrupted by a spectacular traffic accident that turned Estrella Sadhalá Avenue into a scene of extreme danger. Around 3:38 in the morning, a gray Ford Explorer SUV lost control, violently crashing into an electrical utility pole.
The initial impact triggered a chain reaction that brought down additional structures, affecting transformers and causing a series of explosions and flames that kept local residents on edge.
I thought it was like the earth had shaken.
Pedro Martínez, municipal police officer present at the scene.
Officer Martínez, who was near the scene, described the moment the roar shook the area. The impact was of such magnitude that the first pole collapsed onto the power lines, dragging other supports with it and leaving high-voltage cables exposed on the pavement, which created an imminent risk of electrocution and fire for those passing through the area.
