Air tragedy in Florida: Two dead after accident in Tampa

A tragic plane crash shook the state of Florida this Thursday, when a small aircraft plummeted to the ground shortly after taking off from Tampa Executive Airport. The incident resulted in the deaths of the two people who were on board, as confirmed by Hillsborough County authorities.

The incident occurred in a wooded area located northeast of the airport terminal. Emergency teams received the alert at 8:16 in the morning and, upon arriving at the scene, found the aircraft engulfed in flames. Although firefighters managed to control the fire in less than ten minutes, they unfortunately located the two lifeless bodies inside the fuselage.

Aircraft and investigation details

The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Lancair Evolution, a four-seat light single-engine model. According to flight records, the destination of the trip was Elizabeth City, in North Carolina, but the aircraft barely managed to climb a little over sixty meters before the tragedy occurred.

  • The impact left extensive damage to the aircraft’s structure.
  • The Sheriff’s Office is keeping the area under custody.
  • Federal aviation and transportation safety authorities have launched a thorough investigation.
  • A preliminary report on the causes of the crash is expected to be released within thirty days.

The identities of the deceased remain withheld until authorities complete the process of notifying their next of kin.

This event adds to other aerial incidents recently recorded in the region. In previous months, other similar accidents in Wesley Chapel and Polk County also claimed the lives of pilots in the area, keeping local authorities on constant alert regarding the safety of experimental and light aircraft.
