President Luis Abinader leads Dominican delegation at the 81st UN General Assembly
The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, will embark this Sunday on an official trip to New York to lead the country’s participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. During his stay, the president will complete a busy agenda focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, foreign investment, sustainable development, and technological advancement.
The head of State will be accompanied by the first lady, Raquel Arbaje, as well as the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, and of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza. This global meeting, known as the High-Level Week, will serve as a platform to address the most pressing international challenges under the theme: “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all”.
Work agenda and strategic participation
The highlight of the visit will be Wednesday, when President Abinader delivers his speech to the General Assembly after noon. Previously, on Tuesday, he will attend the opening of the General Debate, where addresses from world leaders are expected, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and representatives of various international powers.
The Dominican leader’s agenda includes the following key commitments:
- Participation in the 2026 Concordia Annual Summit on critical mineral supply chains.
- High-Level Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence and meetings with the Business Council Alliance for Ibero-America (CEAPI).
- Inauguration of The People’s Theatre Project and delivery of the first Biometric Passport.
- Special recognitions, including the “INDEX Somos Todos” event and activities with the Dominican community in New York.
President Luis Abinader will mark a historic milestone by becoming the first Dominican leader to receive the Gold Insigne from the Americas Society, a recognition that highlights his work in multilateral arenas.
Meetings with the diaspora and closing of the agenda
Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to strengthening ties with the Dominican diaspora through business luncheons, meetings with young people, and institutional gatherings. The conclusion of the trip will feature a visit to William Paterson University, where the president will receive an academic recognition, followed by a tribute to political leader José Francisco Peña Gómez.
For his part, Minister Víctor -Ito- Bisonó will hold a series of bilateral meetings to follow up on issues of national interest, consolidating the Dominican Republic’s presence as a key player in international cooperation and regional development.
