Family searches for Samuel Heredia Solano after he went missing on an illegal trip to Puerto Rico
Uncertainty and despair mark the days for the relatives of Samuel Heredia Solano, a 33-year-old man who has been missing since last Saturday. The young man, a resident of the Monte Adentro community in La Pared de Haina, was last seen leaving his home in the morning hours.
According to his father, Roberto Elías de los Santos, Samuel left the house accompanied by a cousin who picked him up on a motorcycle, and all traces of him have been lost since that moment. After three days of anguish, his loved ones received the news that the young man had allegedly attempted to make an irregular sea voyage to Puerto Rico, motivated by the desire to reunite with his wife on the island.
Connection to the shipwreck in the Mona Passage
The family’s concern intensified after learning of the recent shipwreck of a vessel in the vicinity of Mona Island, east of Puerto Rico. Dominican authorities and the United States Coast Guard have worked in a coordinated manner in the rescue and search efforts for the passengers.
- So far, 26 people have been rescued in good health.
- Preliminary reports suggest that the vessel capsized about 10 nautical miles from the Isla de Mona nature reserve.
- The theory that an altercation between the crew members may have destabilized the vessel, causing several occupants to fall into the water, is being investigated.
The relatives of Samuel Heredia Solano maintain hope that he has managed to survive and is in the custody of the authorities in Mayagüez, although his name does not yet appear in the official records.
