Leonardo Aguilera highlights the compliance culture as a strategic pillar of banking

The executive president of Banco de Reservas, Leonardo Aguilera, emphasized that the culture of compliance should not be seen as an isolated element, but as a fundamental pillar integrated into all business areas of financial institutions. According to Aguilera, this vision is essential to guarantee the stability and sustainability of the national financial system.

The executive participated in the panel titled Anti-Money Laundering as a Pillar of Compliance Culture: A Strategic View from Senior Management, within the framework of the 4th Congress on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing organized by the banking entity. During his presentation, he stressed that personal and professional integrity is the foundation upon which transparent banking is built.

Anyone who is in the financial system, or in any system, the first thing they must be is upright, because a person who is upright with themselves will be so with others.

Technology and leadership in risk management

Aguilera pointed out that cybersecurity and the adoption of new technologies represent the main pillars of his current management. The goal is twofold: to rigorously protect user data and ensure an efficient digital experience. Likewise, he highlighted that leadership from the upper levels is key for controls and regulations to be successfully applied throughout the organizational structure.

Perspective from Banco BHD

On the same panel, Steven Puig, president of Banco BHD, agreed that compliance risks must be managed from senior management due to their direct impact on society. Puig stressed that the commercial success of a financial entity must always be subject to strict compliance with due process in every operation.
