Luis Abinader strengthens ties with the Dominican community in Brooklyn

During a recent visit to New York City, President Luis Abinader held a special meeting with the Dominican diaspora residing in Brooklyn. During the event, the president spent time with Antonio Reynoso, a prominent figure in local politics and the first Latino to preside over that borough.

As a token of appreciation for his tireless work and the significant contributions made on behalf of Dominicans abroad, Consul Jesús Vásquez presented a special recognition to the Dominican-American official.

A benchmark of success for the diaspora

Antonio Reynoso, who was born and raised in the Williamsburg neighborhood, reached the Brooklyn borough presidency in 2021, marking a historic milestone for the Latino community in New York. His parents, who emigrated from the Dominican Republic in the late 1970s, have been a fundamental part of his trajectory and social commitment.

The meeting with President Abinader underscored the importance of Dominican representation in decision-making spaces in the United States, highlighting how the values and culture of our homeland continue to drive the development of Brooklyn.

Celebratory atmosphere and culture

The day was marked by a warm atmosphere, where there was no shortage of applause and the joy characteristic of Dominican culture. Upon his arrival at the event venue, President Abinader was welcomed to the rhythm of typical merengue, reflecting the strong bond he maintains with his compatriots abroad.

The president is scheduled to conclude his official agenda in New York City this Friday, after having completed a productive day of meetings with the community and local authorities.
