In a move that marks a shift in his administration, the President of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, made his first official visit to the Casa de Nariño this Friday. Accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Lucía Pineda, the president toured the facilities of the executive headquarters, confirming that the historic site will be his main operations center to lead the country.

The head of state shared through his official channels an audiovisual record showing the presidential couple’s journey. De la Espriella highlighted that entering the Casa de Nariño represents an opportunity to consolidate a new beginning for the nation, emphasizing that they assume this responsibility with conviction and determination.
A strategic change of plans
The decision to occupy the seat of Government represents a significant change from the president’s initial plans. Prior to his inauguration, De la Espriella had expressed his intention to transform the palace into a museum and establish his office at the Palacio de San Carlos, the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Among the factors that motivated this reconsideration are:
- The need for robust infrastructure in terms of communications and security.
- The logistical operability offered by the Casa de Nariño, including its private helipad.
- The crisis management following the recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake that affected the country, which required a constant presence in Bogotá.
Despite settling in the capital, the president has reiterated that his administration will maintain a decentralized approach. The plan to govern from the regions remains in effect, keeping Barranquilla as an alternate headquarters with facilities equipped to meet the Executive’s needs outside the center of the country.
