4.8 magnitude earthquake shakes eastern Venezuela

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded this Friday, October 2, in the eastern region of Venezuela, causing alarm among the inhabitants of the area. According to official reports, the epicenter was located in the vicinity of the town of Güiria, in Sucre state.

The seismic event occurred exactly at 12:31 in the afternoon, local time. Technical data placed the epicenter 31 kilometers southwest of Güiria, with a shallow depth of 6.3 kilometers, a factor that contributed to it being felt with greater intensity in various parts of Sucre state and other surrounding areas in the east of the country.

No damage reports so far

Despite the magnitude of the earthquake, the competent authorities have indicated that, following preliminary assessments, no significant material damage or casualties have been reported. Security agencies are maintaining constant monitoring in the areas where the movement was felt most strongly.

Venezuelan authorities continue to strictly monitor seismic activity throughout the national territory to ensure the safety of the citizenry.

  • A previous movement of magnitude 3.2 recorded a day earlier, 34 kilometers north of Güiria.
