Outrage in Bayaguana: Televisions intended to reward Central American Games medalists are stolen

A criminal act has shaken the sports community of Bayaguana, in the province of Monte Plata. During the early hours of this Sunday, a total of 35 55-inch plasma televisions were stolen from the facilities of the local Sports Complex. These devices were intended to recognize the effort and outstanding participation of the athletes and coaches who represented the country in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

The devices, preliminarily valued at more than 600 thousand pesos, were donated by former deputy and union leader Juan Hubieres. The delivery of these awards was scheduled to take place during a special event that would feature the presence of Isaac Ogando, president of the Bayaguana Sports Union, along with a fellowship lunch and an artistic presentation.

Ongoing research

Following the report of the robbery, officers from the National Police and members of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) immediately began survey work at the scene. Agents are currently analyzing security camera footage from the complex and collecting crucial evidence to determine how the theft was carried out and who was responsible.

The event has caused great dismay in the Bayaguana sports community, given that the equipment was intended to reward the sacrifice and representation of the municipality in the international competition.

Sources linked to the investigation have indicated that there are already leads regarding those potentially involved in the incident. Given this progress in the inquiries, authorities do not rule out that arrests will be made in the coming hours to clarify the case and proceed with the recovery of the stolen devices.

The sports community hopes that the full weight of the law falls on those responsible for this act, which directly affects those who have dedicated their time and effort to upholding the name of their municipality and the country in the sporting arena.
