Chase Briscoe Wins Brickyard 400 Qualifying

Chase Briscoe has made history by securing the pole position in all three of NASCAR’s crown jewel races in a single season. This Saturday, Briscoe led the qualifying for the Brickyard 400 with a fast lap of 183.165 mph. His outstanding performance displaced Bubba Wallace from the first starting position. Joe Gibbs Racing’s driver has nine poles in his career, five of them in the current season, including those of the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. Now, he has the opportunity to complete the sweep of the crown races in the Southern 500 at the end of August. Briscoe has the most poles this season, the most recent at the 2.5-mile oval of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In addition, this achievement coincides with his sister’s wedding in Indiana. Wallace will share the front row with Briscoe, after recording a lap of 183.117 mph. Both led a group of five Toyotas at the front of the grid, marking the first time the engine manufacturer has dominated the top five positions. The classification was carried out after a brief rescheduled practice session, as Friday’s practice was canceled due to rain. Briscoe’s teammate, Ty Gibbs, starts with an advantage in the NASCAR In-Season Challenge championship round, qualifying in fifth place with a speed of 182.445. Ty Dillon will start in 26th position. The winner will be crowned champion and will take home a $1 million prize. Denny Hamlin, the winner of last week’s race, faces a significant challenge to win his first title at the Brickyard. Hamlin suffered a hard crash during qualifying and will start in the last position, 39th, as he seeks to become the fifth driver to complete the sweep of the Cup crown races. Hamlin, 44 years old, signed a two-year contract extension with JGR on Friday. Kyle Larson, the winner of last year’s race, will start from the 13th position.
