Diego Sánchez Arrested for Shooting from a Moving Vehicle
Former UFC champion and fan favorite Diego Sanchez was arrested Thursday in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on suspicion of firing a firearm from the window of a moving vehicle.
According to online records, Sanchez, 43, faces charges for shooting at or from a motor vehicle (with great bodily harm) and negligent use of a deadly weapon. His bail has not yet been set.
Police reports indicate the shot came from a Jeep Gladiator while passing by the scene of a traffic accident. Although he was arrested, Sanchez denied firing the weapon. The driver of the vehicle was not detained in connection with the incident.
Sánchez was released by the UFC in 2020 after a series of poor performances and a public dispute with his then-manager. He competed in bare-knuckle boxing in 2023 and was scheduled to do so again earlier this year, but the event was canceled. He rose to fame in the UFC after his participation in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2004.
