TORONTO – Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed his discontent after his team’s 8-4 loss to the Blue Jays, highlighting that the defensive performance was not as expected. Boone emphasized the need to improve defense, showing confidence in the team’s ability to achieve it. He acknowledged that, although they have good defenders, the performance of the night was disappointing. During the game, the Yankees committed four errors.

  • Max Fried and Jazz Chisholm Jr. incurred pitching errors.
  • Ben Rice and Jasson Domínguez committed fielding errors.
In addition to the errors counted, the Yankees suffered other setbacks. Cody Bellinger, for example, lost a fly ball due to the glare of the sun, and there was no one covering the plate after a wild pitch by Fried in the fifth inning.

Today was a bit shaky.

Davis Schneider scored from third base after a bad pitch from Fried. Fried, winner of three Gold Gloves, admitted that the pitch was not good. George Springer took advantage of a mistake by catcher J.C. Escarra to score from second base. In the three-game series, the Yankees accumulated seven errors, including inaccurate throws that allowed runs for Toronto in the first game, resulting in a 4-1 victory for the Blue Jays.

We haven’t been playing well defensively.

Boone also commented on the two poor series in Toronto. The Yankees have committed 52 errors in 102 games. Their performance is significantly better when they play error-free.

It’s in our control, so we’ll take care of it.
