Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles has been suspended for 10 games and fined for his behavior in a Triple-A game on Sunday, where he was on a rehabilitation assignment, Major League Baseball (MLB) announced this Tuesday. The incident occurred in the top of the third inning.
Las Vegas opener Joey Estes’ first pitch to Robles was an inside pitch, and Robles tried to dodge it. After taking a few steps back and dropping the bat, Robles picked it up and threw it in Estes’ direction, being immediately ejected from the game by umpire Joe McCarthy.
Robles, who had been hit by pitches in three of his last four games with Tacoma, advanced toward the mound while yelling at the pitcher, but was held back by McCarthy and others. Later, Robles used social media to apologize for getting carried away by frustration. The suspension will take effect on the first day Robles returns to the Mariners’ active roster. The player is recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in April. Robles has appealed the sanction, so the disciplinary action is on hold until the process is complete.
