Padres Bolster Bullpen with Acquisition of Mason Miller

The San Diego Padres have made a significant move to strengthen their bullpen. According to sources, the team has acquired pitcher Mason Miller in a trade with the Athletics. In this agreement, the Padres will also receive left-handed starter JP Sears. In return, the Athletics will get minor league shortstop Leodalis De Vries, considered the number 3 prospect in baseball. Miller, 26, has stood out this season with 20 saves and an ERA of 3.76 in 38 appearances. His fastball has averaged 101.1 mph, demonstrating his ability to throw with great speed. The reliever, who was an All-Star in 2024, joins a San Diego bullpen that already has two right-handed All-Star pitchers: closer Robert Suarez and setup man Jason Adam. Suarez, the major league leader with 30 saves, could be the subject of another possible trade before Thursday’s deadline.
