The Washington Nationals made important decisions on their roster this Thursday, designating first baseman Nathaniel Lowe for assignment and activating outfielder Dylan Crews from the 60-day injured list.

Roster Moves

Nathaniel Lowe, 30 years old, had a season below his expectations, batting .216 in 119 games with the Nationals. Despite this, he hit 16 home runs, including a grand slam on Wednesday, and drove in 68 runs. Lowe joined the team after a trade on December 22. In his professional career, Lowe has a batting average of .263, with 105 home runs, 397 RBIs, and 384 runs scored in 805 games, playing for the Tampa Bay Rays, the Rangers, and the Nationals. For his part, 23-year-old Dylan Crews returned to the team and was included in the starting lineup for Thursday’s game, after participating in 13 rehabilitation games with Triple-A Rochester. In those games, he batted .244, with two home runs and seven RBIs. Crews had been placed on the 10-day injured list on May 21 due to a left oblique strain and was transferred to the 60-day injured list on July 22. In 45 games with the Nationals this season, Crews has a batting average of .196, with seven home runs, 15 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases.
