Loáisiga Bolsters the Yankees’ Bullpen

The New York Yankees have activated right-handed pitcher Jonathan Loáisiga from the injured list, adding a valuable resource to their bullpen, especially in view of the Subway Series.

The news arrives after the designation for assignment of veteran lefty Tyler Matzek, who leaves space on the active roster.

Loáisiga returns to action after a little over a year of undergoing elbow reconstruction surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament. During his rehabilitation, he participated in six games at two minor league levels, allowing only one run in 7.1 innings.

Injuries have affected the participation of Loáisiga, 30, in the last season, limiting him to 20 appearances. However, the Nicaraguan proved to be a reliable and high-performing option for the Yankees during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, recording an ERA of 2.96 in 107 relief appearances in that period.
