Hunter Greene Delays Return Due to Discomfort

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Reds have postponed the start of their ace Hunter Greene’s rehab assignment due to a right groin strain. Manager Terry Francona reported on Monday, before the start of the three-game series against Miami, that Greene will undergo another MRI “for precaution.” Greene was scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, but this was postponed after feeling discomfort following a bullpen session on Sunday. The right-handed pitcher, who is on his second injured list due to the muscle strain, told reporters that he felt good before this setback, but that his condition will be evaluated “day by day”. After the injury first appeared during an opening on May 7, Greene returned after the minimum 15-day stay on the injured list and made three starts before being pulled early from the last one on June 3. The Reds hoped to have Greene back just after the All-Star break, but the timeline for his return is now less clear. Greene, who was the second overall pick in the 2017 draft, was on track, before the injury, for his second consecutive All-Star selection, with an ERA of 2.72 and 73 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings in 11 starts.
