Dodgers Announce Rotation for National League Championship Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers have defined their rotation for the first two games of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Blake Snell will start Game 1, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound in Game 2. This decision means that Shohei Ohtani will only make one start in the series, specifically in a game in Los Angeles.

“He will throw at some point, but we just don’t know what day,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented.

Unlike other times, the Dodgers are prioritizing rest for their starters in this best-of-seven-game series. Roberts explained that the strategy focuses on having four starters available, allowing some to potentially pitch twice in the series. Ohtani, who is batting .148 this month with an ERA of 4.50 in six postseason innings, did not factor into the decision in his start. Roberts clarified that the choice was based on the overall rotation strategy. For their part, the Brewers plan to use an opener in Game 1, followed by a long-inning pitcher. Manager Pat Murphy mentioned José Quintana and Quinn Priester as possible options for this role. Freddy Peralta is scheduled to open Game 2, and it’s still being evaluated whether rookie Jacob Misiorowski will start a game or pitch multiple innings from the bullpen. The Dodgers are considering carrying only two catchers, as Will Smith’s hand injury is not a significant concern.
