Dodgers bolster bullpen with Zach Penrod acquisition

The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the addition of left-handed pitcher Zach Penrod, coming from the Boston Red Sox. Penrod, 28 years old, has limited experience in the Major Leagues, having participated in seven games with the Red Sox last season, where he had an ERA of 2.25 in four innings. Following the transfer of Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, and the acquisition of Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison, Penrod was designated for assignment by the Red Sox to open a spot on the 40-player roster. In six appearances (two as an opener) with the Triple-A Worcester team this season, Penrod was 0-1 with an ERA of 4.91. He also pitched a scoreless inning with the Red Sox’s Florida Complex League team. Penrod, who was not drafted, signed as a free agent with the Texas Rangers in 2018 after his time at Northwestern Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho, and had two seasons in the independent Pioneer League before signing with the Red Sox in 2023. To make room on the roster, the Dodgers moved right-handed pitcher Roki Sasaki to the 60-day injured list.
